FMFRP 12-110 Fighting On Guadalcanal
Fleet Marine Force Reference Publication 12-110 Fighting On Guadalcanal is unique among the FMFRP 12- Series. Essentially a collection of primary sources, this pub is a compilation of key takeaways straight from the mouths of Marines and Soldiers that served on Guadalcanal. With an eye towards collecting lessons learned after the battle that would be useful for future battles in the Pacific, US Army Chief of Staff General George Marshall commissioned representatives of the First Marine Division and the Army's Americal Division to interview veterans of the arduous campaign and record their perspectives. The result is this publication, first published in 1943 and reissued in 1991, which documents their thoughts in the form of succinct direct quotations. Some are comical while others are surprising, yet all are valuable for gaining an understanding of the unique conditions of fighting the Japanese in that austere environment and offer much for those who may fight in similar environments in the future. Many of the testimonials will strike a chord with anyone who has trained in the jungle or served in combat. This publication is an excellent tool for guided discussion on the ideas contained within.
From the Feed
Don't let the muppet impersonating a Russian General dissuade you. Binkov's Battleground's is an excellent channel for open source analysis of modern military matters on YouTube. What started out several years ago as a channel postulating about hypothetical wars (Iran vs Israel), unlikely geopolitical scenarios (France vs Italy), and outrageous fantasies (USMC vs Roman Legion), has morphed to serious research since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukraine War. Now the channel focuses on open source analysis on modern warfare, especially regular updates out of Ukraine. We highly recommend their recent video about how "First Person View drones are eclipsing artillery usage in Ukraine.”
Let your battle buddy know you are thinking about their lethality and send them this post.
