Today we’re excited to bring you our next episode of the CxFile podcast!

In this episode, Zach jumps on the net with the Gunners from 1st, 2d, 3d, and 4th Marine Divisions.

1st MARDIV Gunner CWO5 Ray Browne

2d MARDIV Gunner CWO5 Ron Hathaway

3d MARDIV Gunner CWO5 Jim Curtis

4th MARDIV Gunner CWO4 Matthew Merry (who was the acting Div. Gunner at time of recording)

The Gunners are special staff officers to their Division Commanding Generals. These elite leaders utilize their extensive operational and combat experience (almost a full century between all four of these gentlemen) to advise on the tactical employment, manning, training, and equipping of their formations.

Have questions for the Gunners? Please email us and we’ll be sure to bring them up the next time we sit down with these gentlemen. And there will be a next time!

The Connecting File is where the Marine Corps infantry links up to discuss leadership, tactics, and training.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Forthcoming initiatives within their respective divisions to better train and prepare Marines for war.

  • What their battalions are absolutely knocking out of the park.

  • What their battalions need to get better at.

  • New gear/ordnance coming down the pike.

  • Thoughts on non-issue kit.

  • Thoughts on the Gunner’s role in advocating bottom up solutions to tough problems.

  • Advice for Company Commanders on building excellent training for their Marines.

  • Thoughts on training Marines to be adaptive decision makers.

  • The right balance between blank and live fire training, and so much more.

Have ideas of people we should interview or topics to discuss? Please send along your recommendations and questions we should be asking!
