This week we are featuring articles, a report and a podcast that break down Russian defensive doctrine, operational plans and tactics extremely well. These resources can easily be scaled to a class or PME of all ranks.
Futura Doctrina, by Mick Ryan, provides a great overview of Soviet defensive doctrine and how it is being applied in Ukraine along with an analysis of Ukranian Operational Art. We follow him on Substack for all things Ukraine and so should you. Read his article here.
The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) has done excellent work with their in-depth studies of tactics being employed by both sides in the UKR-RUS war. This summer they were featured on the Modern War Institute’s Podcast to discuss their most recent report. We recommend listening and reading the report. Spoiler Alert: fundamental small unit infantry skills matter - and they remain decisive on the battlefield.
